Join the Team!

Multisport Athletes Ages 12-19

The Triangle Tenacity Triathlon Team works to develop the necessary triathlon skills to support safe competition in the sport and a life-long love for triathlon. Athletes gain self-confidence by setting, working towards, and achieving goals with their teammates in an encouraging, safe environment. As athletes progress through the season they will work on more advanced triathlon skills, particularly on the bike and open water swimming, and develop endurance for longer distances across all three disciplines. Advanced athletes will work towards developing USAT Draft Legal skills.

The team practices in various locations around the Triangle once a week. Athletes are expected to be working out at least 4-5 times a week. This includes doing personalized workouts provided by Coach Eric, swimming or running with school or club teams, playing in a sports league, or some combination of the above.

Our Spring Session (February-May) is focused on building skills on the bike, in the pool, and on the run, as the team also ramps up fitness towards racing in April and early May. Athletes set the foundation for consistent practice across all three sports. They have the opportunity to travel and explore various avenues of progressing in the sport of triathlon, including USAT Youth and Junior Elite Draft Legal racing.

Our Summer Session (May-August) builds upon the skills learned in the spring, but also welcomes new team members who meet the minimum requirements.  The Summer Session will focus on sharpening fitness and race-specific skills as the team competes in multiple local and regional triathlons. Athletes also have the option to travel and race at USAT Youth and Junior Nationals or USAT Sprint Age Group Nationals (qualification required for Elite Draft Legal and Sprint Age Group Races).

The Full Season (February-August) combines both the Spring and Summer Sessions. This option is the most popular amongst our athletes and offers a consistent training environment for the full 7 months. Full season registration also has a reduced registration fee compared to both sessions separately.

Youth & Junior Elite Racing

USA Triathlon Elite Development Series for Ages 13-19

Elite athletes may wish to further develop their triathlon skills by racing in the fast and exciting draft-legal format. Draft-legal racing requires strong swimming, advanced bike handling, fine-tuned transitions, and the ability to run fast off the bike. The USA Triathlon draft-legal series serves as the nation's elite triathlon circuit for athletes ages 13 to 19, featuring Youth (ages 13-15) and Junior (ages 16-19) divisions. Youth race a 375-meter swim, 10-kilometer bike, and 2.5-kilometer run in a super sprint triathlon. Juniors race a 750-meter swim, 20-kilometer bike, and 5-kilometer run in a sprint triathlon. Elite athletes may compete in one of five national qualifiers to punch their ticket to the USAT Youth and Junior Elite National Championships.

Athletes interested in draft-legal racing should commit to Triangle Tenacity for the full season (February – August)
